The BOCES Safety and Risk Management Service is designed to coordinate and facilitate the efforts of individual school districts to come into compliance with various federal and state laws governing health and safety issues.Ê The service provides instruction and assistance, ensuring a safer workplace for public employees and a safer learning environment for students.
List of services include:
Right-to-know: Right-to-know training for staff at the initial and refresher levels.
Specific Employee Group Training: Develop/coordinate presentation of workshops/training for specific employee groups, i.e., art and science teachers, superintendents of buildings and grounds, coaches, food service workers, transportation staff, nurses, special education teachers and aides.
Compliance Training: Coordinate training for compliance with state mandates, i.e., AED, SAVE, bloodborne pathogens, asbestos handling and integrated pest management.
MSDS Compliance: Assist districts with annual inventory compliance; maintain a central site at BOCES for MSDS sheets; provide up-to-date MSDS information via an outside vendor (fax access 24 hours/7 days per week); toxicity analysis for specific items upon district request.
Other services as Requested: Provided through cross contracts with other BOCES - annual building inspections, building code interpretation, IAQ (indoor air quality) analysis, hearing/noise conservation, AHERA reporting, safety committee training and forklift training.
Whenever possible, BOCES staff will develop and provide training, however, when an outside consultant is needed, districts will be billed for any additional cost.Ê Coordination of these safety services are provided by the Safety and Risk Coordinator.
