For the practical Nursing program only, there are financial aid workshops offered on an ongoing basis. Applicants are requested to call 315.963.4256 to schedule attendance at a workshop.
- Must be requested by calling 963-4256 or 963-4280 or by notation on application.
- Available for the full program cost or for any remaining balances after other funding is applied to the cost.
- Spreads the cost over the length of a program.
- All costs must be paid by the time the program ends.
- Payment Contract is written by school and must be signed by student prior to class starting.
- Payments are due either on the first or fifteenth of the month with the first payment due no later than the first day of class.
- No interest or fees charged with the payment plan.
- Contract is a legal document. Failure to pay will result in collections proceedings.

- An Oswego County agency with the purposes of helping individual with their careers and helping employers find skilled workers.
- One function is to help appropriate and eligible candidates pay for career training.
- Potential candidates for funding must apply early and be willing to invest a significant amount of time and energy in the application process.
- The application process usually takes a minimum of three-four weeks.
- Application process includes visiting the office in Fulton, completing paperwork and applications, providing documentation, attending workshops, participating in interviews, and conducting job market research.
- All steps in the process must be completed before a candidate is considered for funding.
- Potential funding up to $5000.00, depending on the cost of the program.

(Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities)
- Agency that assists clients who have disabilities.
- Must have a physical, mental, emotional or learning disability that limits the ability to work.
- Must have a reasonable chance of becoming employed through services provided by VESID.
- Main office is in Syracuse at 1-800-782-6164 however there are office hours in Oswego County-call for an appointment.
- Must apply early as the screening process takes time.

- For eligible veterans and eligible children of deceased or service-connected disabled veterans.
- Must apply early as the process takes a good deal of time.
- Amount of eligibility and monthly payments depends on length of service, type of service, as well as the length of the career training program.
- Applicants should contact the regional office in Buffalo to determine the potential amount of their eligibility.
- Candidates must first submit form 22-1990, Application for VA Education Benefits.
- Once a student is accepted into a career training program, school will submit form 22-1999, Certification of Enrollment.
- VA benefits are paid directly to the student and not the school, thereforea student accepted into a career training program must enter into a payment plan with the school via a payment contract. The student then receives reimbursement from the VA.

- Check with your employer’s human resource department to find out if there are any monies available for going back to school.
- Civil Service Employees Association members should check with them regarding training money.
- Nurse Assistants working at St.Luke’s, Loretto, or Michaud Nursing Home should check with the 1199 SEIU Training fund for possible upgrade to Practical Nursing.
- If you belong to any civic organizations such as the Elks, the Lions, churches, or local credits unions-check with them regarding scholarships.
- Residents of the Fulton School District may apply for a $500.00 scholarship through Catholic Charities. Applications are available in the BOCES Financial Aid Office.

Once you receive a link, decide whether or not to apply for the scholarship based on what you must do to apply, the amount of the scholarship, and the potential for you being chosen.

Private education loans available to eligible adults in approved career training programs.
- Eligibility: 18 years old, US citizen or permanent resident, enrolled in an approved program, satisfactory credit, residence, and employment history for at least two years.
- Proof of current income as well as a satisfactory credit report required.
- Those with no or poor credit may apply with a co-signer.
- Interest and processing fee charged.
- BOCES is using Wachovia as the lending institution.
- Maximum amount of loan eligibility based on career training program length and cost as well as any other aid received. See list of potential loan amounts for each program.
- Minimum loan amount is $1000.00.
- Repayment may begin six (6) months after program completion or withdrawal from program.
- Eligible programs must be at least 100 hours in length (except for 80-hour CDL).
- Candidates in programs of fewer than 450 hours apply for Continuing Education loans; those in programs of 450 hours or more apply for Undergraduate loans.
- Obtain more information and apply online at www.TERI.org or by calling 1-800-255-TERI.
- Must notify the Financial Aid Office at Oswego County BOCES that a TERI loan application has been submitted-use the loan notification form.

- Federal educational grants available to eligible adults in Practical Nursing program only.
- Eligibility: High School diploma or GED; U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen; valid Social Security number; must comply with Selective Service requirements; not be in default of a federal Title IV loan; not owe a refund on a federal Title IV grant; not have been convicted under federal or state law of sale or possession of drugs; must be passing course and meeting attendance requirements
- Maximum award is $4050.00 per practical nursing program.
- Amount of award based on federal formulas using, but not limited to, such data as family size, income of family, age of student and/or student’s parent, number in family in college at the same time.
- May apply online at www.fafsa.ed.gov or by using a paper application (obtained through Financial Aid Office).
- If applying online, may sign application with an electronic signature called a PIN-Personal Identification Number. Apply for PIN at www. pin.ed.gov.
- Proceeds from grant disbursed in halves, usually 40-60 days into each half.
- Usually no repayment required unless student withdraws from program before having earned the entire grant.

- Two kinds of Stafford Loans: Subsidized and Unsubsidized. For Subsidized Stafford loan must show need in order to qualify (based on federal formulas), with Unsubsidized do not need to show need but cannot borrow more than the cost of attendance.
- For Subsidized the federal government pays the interest on the loan while student is in school; for Unsubsidized student is responsible for all interest including that which accrues while in school.
- As of July 1, 2006, fixed interest rate of 6.8%; there may be origination fees through some lenders.
- No credit checks conducted; student does not need to be working.
- Recommend using one of the preferred lenders selected by BOCES.
- May apply online at www.hesc.org or by using a paper application (obtained through Financial Aid Office). Must first establish eligibility for federal financial aid programs through the FAFSA.
- Maximum loan eligibility: For dependent student, $2625.00. For independent student, $6625.00.
- Proceeds from loan disbursed in halves, usually 40-60 days into each half.
- Repayment may begin six (6) months after program completion or withdrawal from program.
- There are several repayment options such as Standard Repayment, Extended Repayment, Graduated Repayment, and Income Contingent Repayment.
- Must notify the Financial Aid Office at Oswego County BOCES using the loan request and notice form that a Stafford loan application has been submitted

- Eligibility for student: High School diploma or GED; enrolled at least half time; U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen; valid Social Security number; must comply with Selective Service requirements; not be in default of a federal Title IV loan; does not owe a refund on a federal Title IV grant; has not have been convicted under federal or state law of sale or possession of drugs; must be passing course and meeting attendance requirements
- Eligibility for parent: the child must qualify as your dependent; you must be an U.S. citizen or an eligible non-citizen; you cannot be in default of a federal Title IV loan; you cannot owe a refund on a federal Title IV grant.
- Parent will be subject to a credit check and must have an acceptable credit history. At lender’s option, parent may obtain a credit-worthy co-signer,
- As of July 1, 2006, fixed interest rate of 8.5%; there may be origination fees through some lenders.
- Recommend using one of the preferred lenders selected by BOCES.
- May apply online at www.hesc.org. Student must first establish eligibility for federal financial aid programs by submitting the FAFSA to the federal processor.
- Maximum loan eligibility: The difference between the student’s cost of attendance and other financial aid awarded.
- Proceeds from loan disbursed in halves, usually 40-60 days into each half.
- Repayment begins 60 days after the second disbursement of proceeds.
- Must notify the Financial Aid Office at Oswego County BOCES using the loan request and notice form that a PLUS loan is being pursued.

Native American and AmeriCorps funding available to eligible adults in Practical Nursing program only.
Aid to Native Americans:
- Must be member of official tribal roll of a New York State tribe or child of those members.
- $1000.00 per year for 12 or more credits per semester; prorated amounts available for students taking fewer than 12 credits.
- Apply by July 15 for fall semester; December 31 for spring semester
