MEDICAL BILLING

This 105-hour evening course teaches students the basics of medical billing and knowledge of ICD-9 and CPT-4 coding. Students will learn medical terminology and how to transfer verbal or written diagnoses and surgical procedures into numerical coding needed for medical billing forms.The student will be exposed to entry level billing regulations and rules of each insurance program along with interpreting remittance advice summary reports.

Seventy-five (75) hours will be spent in the classroom and lab either in the daytime or evening depending on the program. Thirty hours (30) will be spent at a clinical/internship site, always during the day. Program cost includes the textbook. Students who successfully complete the program receive a BOCES Certificate of Completion.

Prerequisites: A math and reading test (Test of Adult Basic Education – TABE), a physical examination and required immunizations. Click here for a sample TABE test.

Typically, program costs are due prior to the program start date. All financial obligations must be met prior to program completion. For Courses of more than 30 hours, a payment contract may be arranged. The contract must be agreed to prior to class start date.
