PHLEBOTOMY

This 119-hour course is offered as an evening course. Students will learn medical terminology, the circulatory system, infection control and safety, blood circulation equipment and supplies, venipuncture collection procedures, skin punctures, specimen handling, quality assurance and laboratory experience.

Eighty-four (84) hours will be spent in the classroom and lab during the evening. Thirty-five (35) hours will be spent at a clinical internship site, always during the day. Students who successfully complete the course will receive a BOCES Certificate of Completion.

Prerequisites include: A math and reading test (Test of Adult Basic Education – TABE), a physical examination and required immunizations. The cost of the program includes the textbook. Click here for a sample TABE test.

 

Program dates and times can be found on the main Health Occupations web page. The end date reflects classroom instruction only. Internship is scheduled after the conclusion of classroom time.

Typically, program costs are due prior to the program start date. All financial obligations must be met prior to program completion. For Courses of more than 30 hours, a payment contract may be arranged. The contract must be agreed to prior to class start date.
