Safer Actions From Education (SAFE) is a Peer Sexuality Education Group sponsored by APPS. The program's main goals are to train young people in the issues of human sexuality so that they can relay accurate information about the sensitive subject to their peers. Research has shown that teens are more likely to listen to their peers than adults.

SAFE Peer Educators must be in 10th grade or above to join, and need parent permission. The educators complete 20 hours of training in reproductive anatomy and physiology, human reproduction, relationships, sexually transmitted infections, teen pregnancy, contraception, media influences and other teen issues.

SAFE Peer Educators present lessons to high school and middle school health classes, write weekly health newsletters for schools across the county, and raise awareness about teen pregnancy prevention and disease prevention.

For more information about SAFE, please contact APPS at 963-4361
