This course offers qualified college-bound high school seniors an exciting opportunity to observe the work day of healthcare professionals as they deliver patient care. Students will don scrubs and stand next to a surgeon in a real hospital operating room. They learn in a real world environment and accept a level of independence that will help them make a smoother transition to college.
Honors-level Social Studies 12 and English 12 are integrated into the curriculum, and students earn two Health Occupations elective credits. Students also have the opportunity to earn up to six college credits through Onondaga Community College. Students are required to adhere to strict standards regarding patient confidentiality, professional behavior and to follow a dress code on clinical days. Students are required to wear a lab coat while in the hospital. Class size is limited to allow high quality clinical experiences and individual attention.
New Vision Allied Health has provided more than 200 Oswego County students the opportunity to enhance their college applications by showing related work experience and college-level research and writing skills. Each student develops a portfolio of their experiences at A.L. Lee Memorial Hospital in Fulton or at Oswego Hospital in Oswego, which documents that they have successfully completed the program.
