The Library and the Common Core Learning Standards
Februrary 6, 8:00-3:00
River Vista, Fulton, NY
The Common Core Learning Standards represent an important national effort to focus the educational system on preparing all students to be college and career ready. In this all day, hands-on workshop, participants will gain an understanding of the six instructional shifts and a deeper understanding of the standards. What we have discovered, as school librarians, is that our information fluency skills are closely aligned with the skills in the Common Core. Learn how to use the newly created alignment of the Common Core Standards with the Inquiry Based Curriculum, to position yourself as the "go-to" person for reaching the literacy expectations of the ELA Common Core Learning Standards in your building.
Auddie taught high school English for several years before beginning consulting work with schools in our region. Her consulting work has focused on developing literacy programs, practices and curricula for grades PreK-12. She was a Regional Reading First Coach for several years and then worked closely with the Reading Recovery Teacher Leader as a Leveled Literacy Intervention trainer. She spent a year as an adjunct instructor at SUNY Oswego and OCC teaching Content Literacy courses. While she continues to consult with schools, she is now a Network Team Coordinator at OCM BOCES. In this role, Auddie supports the component school districts in implementing the Common Core Learning Standards and Data Driven Inquiry.
